About

Overview and Core Mission

McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not-for-profit healthcare system serving over one million people across northeastern South Carolina and eastern North Carolina. Founded in 1906 by Dr. F.H. McLeod, it has grown from a single house hospital in downtown Florence into the region’s leading medical network. The organization is guided by a mission to improve the overall health of its communities by providing excellence in health care, combining advanced expertise with a personal, compassionate touch that has defined its care for generations.

Scale and Service Footprint

The system’s network comprises seven hospitals with 945 licensed beds, including the flagship 461-bed McLeod Regional Medical Center, which features a Children's Hospital unit and a Cancer Center. The network extends across an 18-county service area with more than 90 physician practices and over 15,000 team members, including more than 900 physicians. In addition to its hospitals, McLeod operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, and comprehensive hospice and home health services. McLeod Regional Medical Center was honored with the American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize in 2010, and the entire system received full ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system in 2023.
